The Hutchinson Photography Club will host its 7th Annual Photography Showcase on Tuesday, November 18 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts.
About 20 local artists will display nearly 120 photographs in several categories.
Due to requests from showcase visitors last year, the showcase will feature an extended time frame, starting 30 minutes earlier. Once again, many photos in the showcase will remain on display beyond the showcase event, this year through November 26 during the center’s regular hours.
Also new this year will be a brief awards ceremony to kick off the event at 5:30. The ceremony will recognize photographers and their works for those photos earning ribbons from the judging professional photographers.
One of the showcase features that helps give it a metro art gallery atmosphere is the inclusion of music. This year, Gaelic harpist Ann Heymann, Winthrop, and a few potential guests will perform as people browse the visual arts.
“I’m excited for the club and the community,” said Roman Bloemke, Hutchinson Photography Club president. “We have had a very active year and have welcomed several new members who bring great ideas and new energy to our meetings and activities. We have some very talented members, but also like to welcome beginners to help them learn new skills, regardless of what level they are starting. The showcase is a great chance to meet photographers with a wide range of skills and learn some of the many benefits to becoming a member.”
The 2014 year has kept club members busy going on field trips, learning new skills, putting on photography workshops and attending some themselves, and most recently, supporting other Art Center members by serving dinner at Hutchinson Theatre Company performances.
The club meets the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts, with the exception of November, due to the showcase.
